Why Should I Buy a Second Hand Gibson Guitar?

Gibson Guitars are some of the most sought-after Electric Guitars you can buy. The Gibson brand is highly desirable for their intrinsic link to Blues and Rock music with their Electric Guitar models, and have been used by countless artists over the years. New Gibson Guitars command relatively high retail prices, being largely hand-made in the USA. Buying a 2nd Hand Gibson can prove to be a relatively affordable way to own a Gibson Guitar compared to buying a brand new one. The main Les Paul and SG models hold their prices well, so buying a second hand used Gibson is a good way to insulate yourself from depreciation when buying a new guitar.

Do Second Hand Gibson Guitars Hold Their Value?

In general terms - yes. If we are considering the main production models such as Les Paul Standard, SG Standard made over the last few years then their 2nd hand market value is established. Therefore it's conceivable that a well looked after Les Paul Standard will essentially retain it's resale price, if not appreciate depending on how long you have the instrument for. The market for vintage Gibson Guitars is well documented. Original 50s/60s models were produced in finite number and as collectors acquire these guitars and some others lost to history - the desirabliity and lack of availability drives a strong market. The spill over is noticebale into later era Gibson guitars from the 70s/80s as they are relatively affordable to their earlier counterparts. New Limited edition Gibson models, artist models etc etc can attract strong asking prices due to being made in very limited quantities also.
