Fender Standard Stratocaster - Frequently Asked Questions
Created in 1991, the Fender Mexican Standard Stratocaster is a line of electric guitars manufactured by Fender in their Ensenada, Mexico facility. It's renowned for offering classic Stratocaster design and tone at a more affordable price point compared to American-made models.
The Mexican Standard Stratocaster typically features an alder body, maple neck with a modern C-shaped profile, a choice of rosewood or maple fingerboard, three standard single-coil pickups, synchronized tremolo bridge, and standard Fender tuning machines.
Essentially, while Fender doesn't officially title the guitar a "Mexican Standard Strat", it became a widely used term to differentiate it from the American Standard Stratocaster that has been in production over the same period of time. You may also see them referred to as MIM Strat, or Made In Mexico.
No. The Fender Standard Stratocaster series was officially ended in 2018 and replaced by the Fender Player Stratocaster. This was triggered due CITES restrictions at the time, which prevented Rosewood being used on Fingerboards. So Fender switched to Pau Ferro - and subsequently launched the new Player Series as part of that restructure.
