Original 50s/60s models were produced in finite number and as collectors acquire these guitars and some others lost to history - the desirabliity and lack of availability drives a strong market. The spill over is noticebale into later era Gibson guitars from the 70s/80s as they are relatively affordable to their earlier counterparts. New Limited edition Gibson models, artist models etc etc can attract strong asking prices due to being made in very limited quantities also.
