THE RICH TONE BUYING GUIDE
Used PRS speaker cabinets: Archon, HDRX, DGT and MT formats explained
PRS speaker cabinets are designed around the company’s amplifier families, with compact 1x12 options, versatile 2x12 rigs and full-size 4x12 stacks. Used examples can span Archon, HDRX, DGT, Mark Tremonti and earlier signature designs, pairing different Celestion speakers and enclosure styles with modern gain, vintage response and expressive clean sounds.
Archon cabinets
Archon cabinets use Celestion V-Type speakers for a balanced modern voice. The current 1x12 is rated at 70 watts and 16 ohms, the 2x12 at 140 watts and 8 ohms, and the Baltic-birch 4x12 at 280 watts and 16 ohms.
HDRX cabinets
HDRX 1x12 models also use a Celestion V-Type, while the larger HDRX 2x12 and 4x12 cabinets use G12H-75 Creambacks. The family scales from a compact 70-watt 1x12 to 150-watt 2x12 and 300-watt 4x12 formats for late-1960s-inspired rock response.
DGT and DG open-back designs
The DGT 1x12 uses a Celestion Vintage 30 and an 8-ohm, 60-watt specification. The larger DG 2x12 Open Back uses two Vintage 30 speakers, 8-ohm impedance and 120-watt handling, adding the broader room spread associated with an open-back enclosure.
MT and Mark Tremonti 1x12
The MT 15 cabinet is a compact 1x12 partner for Mark Tremonti’s amplifier platform. Its Celestion Vintage 30 speaker is rated for 60 watts at 16 ohms, giving the small-format rig a focused midrange and stage-ready rock voice.
Choose 1x12, 2x12 or 4x12
A 1x12 keeps the rig compact and is easy to pair with lower-powered heads. A 2x12 adds cone area, projection and low-end scale without the footprint of a full stack. A 4x12 delivers the broadest physical spread and highest power handling in the Archon and HDRX families.
Speaker and enclosure choices
Celestion V-Type speakers support the balanced modern character of Archon and compact HDRX cabinets. Vintage 30 speakers bring pronounced midrange to DGT, DG and MT formats, while HDRX Creamback 2x12 and 4x12 cabinets target a fuller vintage-inspired rock response. Open-back construction spreads sound more widely; closed or sealed designs project with tighter focus.

PRS speaker cabinet questions answered
Which speaker is used in the PRS Archon cabinets?
Current Archon 1x12, 2x12 and 4x12 cabinets use Celestion V-Type speakers. Power handling and impedance change with the cabinet size.
What is the difference between HDRX 1x12 and larger HDRX cabinets?
The 1x12 uses one Celestion V-Type speaker and is rated at 70 watts and 16 ohms. The 2x12 and 4x12 use Celestion G12H-75 Creambacks, with higher power handling and more cone area.
Which PRS cabinets use Celestion Vintage 30 speakers?
The DGT 1x12, DG 2x12 Open Back and MT 15 1x12 formats use Celestion Vintage 30 speakers in the current PRS cabinet range.
Why does cabinet impedance matter?
Impedance is part of the electrical match between an amplifier’s speaker output and the cabinet. PRS cabinets vary between 8 and 16 ohms, so the cabinet specification should be paired with a supported amplifier output.
